Overnight trip for cooler weather? Where to?

Postby sirhk100 on Wed Jul 28, 2010 7:36 am

Say someone wanted to leave town and only drive a couple hours on a Friday evening, get a cheap room somewhere that will be safe with two bikes locked up or possibly just put the bikes in the room. Then ride sat morning and most of Sat, drive home sat afternoon...

Where would you go?

I have the option of my house in Az but I'm looking for other options...

Someplace cooler... Maybe someplace with trees... Someplace that the trails can be found relatively easy having never been...

Does this place exist??? I'm guessing in Utah somewhere???

Let me know...

Basically I had grand plans of heading out to Az but it's not really worth it for just a day and it turns out that I have to be home on Sat night now instead of Sunday night. So I'm hoping to still ride Sat but would rather head to someplace cooler.

Any ideas???

Thanks,
Khris

Or Marysvale, Circlevill, Junction, etc. Any of the towns that border on the Paiute trail system. It is mostly ATV double track, but their is single track to be found.

I agree, Duck Creek is the only place i know of within 2 hours. you can stay in cedar city and head up the mt for riding. or if your lucky find a cabin in duck creek village( i doubt that option is cheap though). i was told by some bosses of mine that have cabins up there that they rode some insane amount of miles one summer, something like 3,000 on their quads and never took the same trail twice, but i have never been up there with my bike personally, just camping, so i don't know how much is single track or even fun 2 track vs. lame hunter quad 2 track/ fireroads. I do want to give it a try someday. Its very nice scenery and weather up there. the Paiute trail system sounds very badass. but i believe your getting closer to 3-4 hours arent you? maybe not if you hit them from beaver?

Marysvale is about 3.5, duck creek is about 3. Both are primarily ATV trails, and both you can ride out from where you stay. Duck Creek is a little nicer, and more expensive. Less single track at Duck Creek, at least that we found, but it is there. Both are good options for sure, but the south west portion of the paiute (only part I have ridden) had more technical riding. There is lots of fun 2 track in both places though, but lots of quads around blind corners too.

I'm not sure what I'll be doing for labor day. I may try and head to Az that weekend cause the trails around my house are always empty as they're unknown/hidden trails and it's nice to avoid the crowds. That and I also just reserved campground at Zion for the weekend after labor day so I'm already kinda busy around that time...

fishing? What's that? I've drank in the water before, does that count?

As for fishing, that is pretty much what it consists of whenever I do it.

We have a place up by duck creek and just got back. It rained all week but still was great for riding. If your looking for singal track, duck creek is NOT the place to go. All the trails are pretty smooth but have some good challenging ones. We have ridden from duck creek to panguitch lake and back in one day. its over 100 miles but lots of roads. SOme awsome trails though!!!

O man yodi it was so nice!!! not to cold and not to hot. the rain didnt hurt it was fun cause i got to watch my dad slide around because of he wrond type of tire he had. Like i said, trails r quiet smooth but you get like a mile from duck creek it gets pretty rough.

come up to ELY nv. temps have been in the 80s and rain each night , and you can stay at the copper queen.
lot of riding were we had our race set up @ egan orv area . the rain has gotten rid of the powder on the single track and in the trees .lots of places to ride.
